AKERS, Eleanor Tanner, 72, of Willis, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 1994, at her home. Survivors include one son, Beckwith F. Akers, Jr., Draper, Va.; three daughters, Lucy Ellen Dulaney, Alum Ridge, Va., Starr Akers, Riner, Va., Melanie Moran, Denver, N.C.; two sisters, Margarie T. Coffey, Roanoke, Va., Phyllis T. Pugh, Vinton, Va.; one brother, Michael Tanner, Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with Rev. Kenny Wurzburger and Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Burial will be in Alum Ridge Community Cemetery.

ANDERSON, Daniel O., 82, of New York City, N.Y., formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, October 10, 1994. Among his survivors are his wife, Catherine, New York City, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie A. Terrell, Roanoke, Mrs. Evelyn A. Taylor, Falls Church; nephew, Alexander Terrell; two nieces, Ms. Eunice R. Poindexter and Mrs. Odelle Poindexter Mebane, all of Roanoke; other nieces and cousins. CAMPBELL, Jennings Earl, 84, of Goode, passed away, Tuesday, October 11, 1994, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 31, 1909, in Covington, a son of the lat e Chalres Edward Campbell and Ruth Bryant Campbell Day. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Eula Carter Hodges Campbell. He was a member of the New Tabernacle Baptist Church and was formerly a member of the Jennings Creek Gospel Church, Buchanan. He was former owner of the Campbellville Park, Buchanan, and also of the former Candlelite Restaurant, Goode. He was a member of the James Evans No. 72 Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star #148, Buchanan, the Scottish Rites, Roanoke, a member of teh Kazim Temple, Raonoke, was a 32nd Degree Mason - Past District Deputy, Grand Master of the 22nd Masonic District in 1971. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army during the Philipine Liberation. He is survived by his former wife, Frances Woodford Wiles; his present wife of 16 years, Sharon Krzic Campbell; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Jackie Campbell, Mooresville, N.C.; Rev. Robert and Christine Campbell, Anchorage, AK, Jim and Glenda Campbell, Glasgow, Va., Dennis and Christine Campbell, Etheridge, Tenn.; one daughter, Annie Campbell, Endicott, N. Y.; three sisters, Iva Burford, Lynchburg, Lena Peeler, Bayonet Pt., Fla., Christine Leach, Geneva, Fla.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 14, 1994, noon from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford by the Rev. Chester Carter. Interment will follow in the Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

CARTER, Lunsey Basham Matz, 80, of Elliston, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, in a Salem hospital. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Frances Matz, James and Ardith Matz, both of Elliston, Randy and Kathie Holland, Macon, Ga.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy M. Booth, Patsy M. and Henry King, Ginger and Doug Smith, all of Salem, Betty and John Gill, Fredericksburg; five brothers, J. N. Basham, C. G. Basham, both of Shawsville, G. T. Basham, Greenville, S. E. Basham, R. A. Basham, both of Roanoke; two sisters, Lustra Stewart, Roanoke, Ursula Brumfield, Colorado; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, at 2 pm at the Shawsville Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. John W. Smith and the Rev. Leonard Southern officiating. Interment will be in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Lotz Salem Chapel.

CRAWFORD, Blanche Bennett, 91, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. Mrs. Crawford was born at Elliston, Va. on February 19, 1903, a daughter of the late Robert N. and Nancy Lee Bane Bennett. She was a graduate of Blacksburg High School, Radford State Teachers College and Marshall Un iversity. She taught school in Montgomery and Giles County school systems. Mrs. Crawford moved to Charleston, W.Va. in 1941 and taught school until her retirement. She moved to Blacksburg in 1994. She was a long time active member of the Homemakers Club, Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Presbyterian Church, Charleston, W.Va. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husbuand, John Ote Crawford. Survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law, R. B. ``Ben'' and Carol K. Crawford, 200 Cork Drive, Blacksburg, Va. 24060; three grandchildren and spouses, Virginia Lee and Robert Edison Lookabill, Lashmeet, W.Va., John Ote, II and Deborah Crawford, Charleston, W.Va., Jane and Gerlanzo Scott, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Jesse Aaron Lookabill and Kathleen Nicole Lookabill; one brother-in-law, Lee L. Price, Mt. Tabor. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 15, 1994, 11 a.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jacob Mayer officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. DOOLEY, Marie Barnett 73, Montvale, passed away Tuesday October 11, 1994. Born February 13, 1921. She was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Mary C. Barnett. She was preceded in death by husband, James W. Dooley. Mrs. Dooley was a member of Walnut Grove Union Church and retired from Peaks Otter Restaurant. Surviving are daughter, Brenda D. Kirkwood, Montvale; four sons, E. Mark Dooley, D. Michael Dooley, both of Montvale, Joseph W. Dooley, Bedford, C. Jeffrey Dooley, Montvale; nine grandchildren; one brother, Paul Barnett, Staunton. DUDLEY, Tinnie May Morgan, 87, of Blue Ridge, died Tuesday, October 11, 1994, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Samuel Isaiah Dudley and was retired from the Kenrose Manufacturing Company. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin I. and Brenda Dudley, Blue Ridge; eight grandchildren, James Allen Dudley, Sylvia May Dudley, both of Blue Ridge, Iva Jean Letchford, Montvale, Shelby Leonard, Blue Ridge, Linda Murell, Roanoke, Priscilla Waldron, Vinton, Donna Hartman, Freddie Dudley, both of Blue Ridge; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Delsie Sink, New Castle. DUNCAN, Marvin Dudley, 82, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 1994. He was a member of the Christian Church United in Virginia Beach and a retired employee of Landmark Communications. Surviving are his wife, Nellie Horton Duncan; brothers, Curtis Duncan, Salem, Charles M. Duncan Jr., Virginia Beach; sister, Muriel Bolton, Clearwater, Fla. EARLY, Darden Arrington, 60, of Rt. 1, Montvale, passed away Monday, October 10, 1994, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Helen Franklin Early. Survivors include three daughters; Diana Reinhardt, Moneta, Rose M. Willey, Catawba, Mary E. Puckett, Bedford; two brothers, Warren T. Early, Denver, Colo., William H. Early, Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Phyllis E. Long, Montvale; granddaughter, Stacy Willey; grandsons, David Burnette, Kevin Burnette, John Reinhardt and Andrew Reinhardt. FISHER, Cornelia Perry Brown, 77, of Newport, formerly of Covington, died Monday, October 10, 1994, in a Staunton Health Care Center. A daughter of the late Maryland and Ethel Carter Perry, she was born February 12, 1917, in Augusta County. She was the widow of the late Mr. Arizona T. Brown and the late Mr. Melvin R. Fisher. Surviving are two sons, David Lee Brown, Buchanan and Randolph Brown, Newport; two daughters, Mrs. Regene M. Radford, Newport and Mrs. Cornelia E. Jenkins, Laurel, Md.; a step-son, Melvin (Coolie) Fisher, Roanoke; three step-daughters, Mrs. Mary Pendleton, Pittsburgh, Penn., Mrs. Eva Garrett, Harrisburg, Penn., and Mrs. Doris Strothers, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 24 grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was employed by Mid Mountain Foods for 41 years and attended the Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church, Nicks Creek Chapel. She is survived by her husband, Walter James Jones of Atkins; one son, James Harvey Jones of Atkins; four sisters, Grace Burkett of Marion, Edna Henderson of Richmond, Margaret Flowers of Newark, Ohio, and Roxie Henderson of Hampstead, N.C.; one brother, J. Herman Arnold of Rural Retreat; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 1994, at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, with Rev. Neville Mozingo and Rev. William W. McGOWAN, Elsie Conner, 70, of Lexington, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. She was born in Rockbridge County, September 30, 1924, the daughter of the late James Irby and Dorothy Johns Conner. She was the widow of Harry William McGowan. Surviving are five sons, James William Carter, Jr., Natural Bridge; Wayne Lee Carter, Pittsburg, Penn.; Donald T. McGowan and Terry A. McGowan, both of Lexington; William L. McGowan, Buena Vista; five sisters, Mary Mutispaugh, Augusta, Ga.; Grace Hostetter, Mildred Wade, Kathleen Conner, Dorothy Hostetter, all of Lexington; three brothers, Robert Conner, Ed Conner, Billy Conner, all of Lexington; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
