ACRES SAVED FROM FIRE THAT DESTROYED CABIN

Firefighters from McCoy, Blacksburg and the Forestry Department managed to keep a cabin fire from destroying nearby acreage Wednesday afternoon.

McCoy Fire Chief Jeff McCoy said no one was in the cabin on Big Vein Road, which is used by his family for hunting trips. The cabin, he said, was a total loss.

McCoy said the leaves around the cabin were so thick, the fire spread quickly.

Firefighters dug a fire line and contained the fire to a little more than an acre.
