Guitar workshop
A fingerstyle guitar workshop with Chris Proctor will be held Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Fret Mill Music in downtown Roanoke.
Proctor, Flying Fish recording artist and 1982 National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, will cover aspects of fingerstyle from beginning to advanced, simple patterns to advanced composition, and practical tips for all skill levels.

Kandinsky Trio concert
The Kandinsky Trio will present the first concert of its 1994-95 season on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Roanoke College's Olin Theater.
Opening the program will be the Sonata in C Major for two cellos by Luigi Boccherini. The work will feature cellist Steven Doane, who also is a recording artist and master teacher.
Beethoven's Seven Variations for Cello and Piano in E-flat Major will follow. The Duo, Op.7 for Violin and Cello by the 20th-century Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly and the G Minor Piano Trio of Bedrich Smetana will complete the program.
The Kandinskys include Benedict Goodfriend, violin; Alan Weinstein, cello; and Elizabeth Bachelder, piano.
Craft show winners
Among the regional winners in the 21st annual Foot of Hills Arts and Crafts Show's competition were: Margaret Cox, Roanoke, first place, painting; Jane Duncan Stogner, Callaway, second place, painting; James W. Childs, Bassett, photography, first place; Beverly Garraghty, Montvale, photography, second place; Kathy Guest, Martinsville, 3D, second place.
Purchase award winners included: Margaret Smith, Martinsville, the Mr. and Mrs. John E. Bassett III Purchase Award; Faye F. Edwards, Stuart, the Laddie & Helen Clark Purchase Award; Barbara Norman Lashley, Vinton, the Ford, Dickerson, and Cobbe CPA's, PC Purchase Award.

SPCA fund-raiser
See the latest in fashion while helping the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) at its major fund-raiser.
``An Evening for the Animals'' will be held on Oct. 22, 7-11 p.m., at the Sheraton Inn Roanoke Airport, sponsored by E.I. Randle.
Forty models will walk the runway accompanied by either their own pets or SPCA animals available for adoption.
A $25 donation also includes a buffet dinner with entertainment by After Six.
A silent auction of more than 100 items will be offered, including a weekend for two at The Homestead, a two-night stay at Westin at Hilton Head and dinner at The Library restaurant.
Donations will fund the SPCA's programs, including pet therapy in nursing homes, spay and neuter clinics and public education. Future plans include a new shelter.
