MUSEUM GETS GRANT

The Roanoke Valley History Museum was awarded a grant of $71,000 from the Legacy Management Resources Program, which is administered by the Department of Defense.

With the funds the museum will develop an exhibit and educational program focused on the D-Day invasion of World War II. The exhibit will interpret the history and military contributions of the National Guard in Southwest Virginia and the sacrifices of citizens and soldiers abroad and on the homefront. The exhibit, expected to be in place by September 1995, will occupy the east wing of the museum.

In addition, educational outreach programs will send veterans into schools to relate their experiences and to personalize the meaning of the war. A speakers bureau also will be made available.

The museum is in Center in the Square, downtown Roanoke.
