BOVARD, Mary Ellen, 67, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. Mrs. Bovard was born in Clarion, Pa. on May 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Fred E. Sr. and Helen E. Clabotts Dale. She retired January 1994 as Executive Secretary with the Alumni Association at VA Tech and was an active volunteer parent in transporting camper to and from camp in the Front Royal area. Survivors include her husband, Kenly P. Bovard; one daughter, Kathleen Bovard, Pearisburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim and Susanne Bovard, Rockville, M.D. and David Bovard, Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters, Rian and Niki Bovard, Denver, Colo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred E., Jr. and Marie Dale, Low er Burrell, Pa. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 1994, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard E. Bethune officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to, Mary Ellen Bovard Scholarship Endowdment, at Camp Virginia Jayccees, Route 1, Box 860, Blue Ridge, VA 24064, to help send mentally retarted citizens to camp. Friends will be received following the service.

BURCH, Thomas J., 85, of Martinsville died, Friday, October 14, 1994. A native of Roanoke, he was a long time Real Estate Developer and Appraiser in the Martinsville Henry County area. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Boo) Burch; a sister and several nieces. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, October 17, 1994, from the Christ Episcopal Church, interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. CASH, Newton Eugene, 80, of Roanoke, died Friday, October 14, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Ethel P. Cash; his son, James M. (Mike) Cash, Roanoke; stepson, Dayton Payne, Roanoke; sister, Lucille Kerns, Ohio; his brothers, Clarence Cash, Raymond Cash, both of Ohio, Bill Cash, Taylor Cash, Garland Cash, all of North Carolina, Frank (Junior) Cash, New Mexico; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Lotz Vinton Chapel by Rev. Robert A. Sadler with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park. DODGION, Allie Mae Mabry, 72, of Orlando, Fla. and formerly of Pulaski County, passed away Friday, October 14, 1994. Funeral services will be Tuesday 2 p.m. form the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

DOUGLAS, Elizabeth Jane 62, of Roanoke, died Thursday October 13, 1994 at her home surrounded by family. She was a registered nurse for over 15 years at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, William Douglas, Jr. and his wife Jan, Chesapeake, Stephen Douglas, and his wife Mary, of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Jamie and William Douglas of Chesapeake; one brother, Joe Ropyak, of Renovo, Pa.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Ropyak of Renovo, Pa., Anne and Ralph Moerschbacher, Camp Hill, Pa.; sister-in-law, Nadine Ropyak, Oklahoma City, Okla. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church 11:15 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. James M. Fosnot officiating. Interment will be held in Pennsylvania at a late date. LAPE, James Willard, 79, of 103 Hiland Ave., Oil City, Pa., died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 1994, at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa. He was born May 2, 1915 in Castleton, Pa., the son of the late James Franklin and Nellie Hahn Lape. Mr. Lape was a graduate of Connellsville High School, where he was active in sports, a member of the 440 relay team which held the state record for many years. He retired from Foster Forbes Glass in 1977 where he was a machine operator. Mr. Lape was a veteran of World War II serving the Navy in the South Pacific. Mr. Lape was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was an avid sportsman and gardener, and former hunter and fisherman. He was married March 24, 1934 to the former Frances Martin who preceded him on April 30, 1986. Mr. Lape is survived by a son, Robert Nelson Lape, Oil City, Pa.; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Judith) Malatino, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., Joan Young of Kewaunee, Wis., Mrs. Francis (Loretta) Beary of RD# 5 Titusville, Pa., and Mrs. Thomas (Frances) Dickerson, Roanoke; a sister, Helen Gilpin, Connellsvile, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by a brother Nelson Lape; three sisters, Ruth Schlinger, Thelma Jamieson and Emma Catherine Lape; and two grandchildren. LENNON, Thomas Joseph, 83, of Hot Springs, died Friday, October 14, 1994 in Bath County Community Hospital. He was born April 17, 1911 in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Patrick Lennon and Julia Tipping Lennon. He was the retired president of the Homestead Hotel and a member of Shrine of th e Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Lennon is survived by his wife, Anne Lennon, Hot Springs; son, Thomas P. Lennon, Washington, D.C.; daughters, Theresa Marie Lennon Gardner, Washington, D.C., and Kathleen Pampillonia, Richardson, Texas; two sisters, Theresa Bentz of Maryland and Marie Wiles of North Carolina; grandchildren, Thomas P. Lennon, Barry Lennon, James Lennon, Patrick J. Lennon, Courtney Anne Gardner, Christine Lennon Gardner, Shannon Pampillonia, Robin Pampillonia, Anthony Pampillonia and Christopher Pampillonia; and one great-grandchild, Catherine Anne Lennon. Mr. Lennon was preceded in death by one son, Patrick J. Lennon. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 17, 1994 at 10 a.m. in the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, with Bishop Walter Sullivan officiating. Burial in Warm Springs Cemetery. ROSE, Dolly, 75, of 130 Oak Lane, Pulaski, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 12, 1994 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born July 13, 1919 in Blacksburg, she was the daughter of the late Steven R. Rose and Etta Estelle Hinkle Rose. She was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Rose Weise and a brother, Howard Rose. Surviving are one sister, Alice Mary Rose, Blacksburg; a number of nieces. A graveside funeral service will be Saturday 2 p.m. from Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski, with the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the funeral service. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, is in charge of the arrangements.

SHAFER, Dorris R., 83, of Christiansburg, died Thursday morning in Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Shawsville. She was the widow of Frank H. Shafer and an active member of Main Street Baptist Church, having sung in the choir for many years. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. William E. Hungate with burial in Sunset Cemetery. SPENCE, James Douglas, 85, of Buena Vista, died October 13, 1994, at his home. He was born December 17, 1908, the son of the late John and Olivia Lamun Spence. He retired as Supervisor of the Standard Richmond Paper Mill after 39 years. Surviving are his wife, Mary Woodson Spence; one stepson, Henry Anderson, Buena Vista; one stepdaughter, Diane Davis, Chester; one daughter-in-law, Louraine Spence, Bonair; two sisters, Mary Jane Garrett, Richmond; Lucille Armstrong, Christiansburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Chip Pendleton. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. TUCK, Mary Goad, 89, of Alliance, N.C., and formerly of Rt. 2, Moneta, Va., died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, in The Cravins Regional Medical Center in New Bern, N.C. She was the widow of J. Everette Tuck and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley T. Oakes, Lynchburg, Barbara T. Dixon and husband, Riley, Alliance, N.C.; grandchildren, Carl W. Woolridge, Alliance, N.C., Sharon D. Smith, Alliance, N.C.; great-granchildren, Mary and Callie Smith, Alliance, N.C. TURNER, Alice Woodford Creasey, 84, of Bedford, died Thursday, October 13, 1994, in a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hospital. She was born in Bedford County April 2, 1910, a daughter of the late William Isaac Creasey and Rose Ella Woodford Creasey. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and the widow of Earl Thomas Turner, Sr. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William N. Creasey, Elmer H. Creasey, Roy D. Creasey, Aubrey B. Creasey, Clinton H. Creasey, Warren L. Creasey; her sisters, Kathleen C. Bays, Annie Mae Bowyer, Viola M. Harris and Carlie P. Creasey and her grandson, Earl Timothy Turner. She is survived by two sons, E. Thomas Turner Jr. of Bedford, Carl Wayne Turne r of Tacoma, WA; a daughter, Jeanne A. Turner of Pittsburgh; two brothers, J. Rucker Creasey and Raymond E. Creasey both of Bedford; also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. WEBSTER, Arline Hickerson, 68, of Salem, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, in Lewis Gale Hospital. She had been a long-time Salem resident and had retired from Roanoke College, Housekeeping Department after 17 years of service. She was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Alberti Webster, Jr. She is survived by a son, Danny Lowell Webster, Sr., Cape Canaveral, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra W. and Michael D. Sweet, Salem; a daughter-in-law, Karen B. Webster; three granchildren, Shawn Sweet, D.J. Webster and Brian Webster; a sister, Eunice H. Amos, Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bob Leighton, Virginia Beach; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank a special friend, Jeanie Weakley; a nurse from Ho usecall Health Care and their entire staff for all the special care and support they showed our family.
