HAIRSTON LEADS THE WAY FOR BASSETT

Kim Hairston, Timesland's leading scorer, had 20 points in the first half on 10-of-12 shooting and finished with 26 points as Bassett won 53-37 over Patrick County in a Piedmont District battle Thursday night.

Bassett (12-2, 11-1) used easy transition baskets to jump out to a 16-5 first-quarter lead and never was challenged.

LEXINGTON - Tanya Holmes hit all eight of her free throws in the fourth quarter and made 12 of 14 for the game as the Vikings held off the Wildcats in a Blue Ridge District game.

Northside took advantage of effective free-throw shooting. The Vikings (4-11, 1-3) made 26 of 33 attempts for the game compared to Rockbridge County, which was 3-of-6.

The Wildcats (0-14, 0-4) trailed by three at the end of the first quarter, but could manage just three points in the second quarter and fell behind by 17 at halftime.

Holmes led the Vikings with a game-high 19 points. Terri Craig added 12 for Northside.

Summer Plunkett sank three of her four 3-pointers and scored 15 of her 24 points in the second quarter as the host Cavaliers built a commanding lead en route to the Blue Ridge District victory.

Sara Moore added 17 points and Sarah Hicks 10 for the Cavs (9-5, 2-2). Katie Craft scored 17 for the Mountaineers.

EMORY - Beth Ketner scored 15 points to lead the Indians to a Hogoheegee District rout of the Rebels.
