BOVARD, Mary Ellen, 67, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. Mrs. Bovard was born in Clarion, Pa. on May 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Fred E. Sr. and Helen E. Clabotts Dale. She retired January 1994 as Executive Secretary with the Alumni Association at Virginia Tech and was an active volunteer parent in transporting campers in the Front Royal area to and from camp. Survivors include her husband, Kenly P. Bovard; one daughter, Kathleen Bovard, Pearisburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim and Susanne Bovard, Rockville, Md. and David Bovard, Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters, Rian and Niki Bovard, Denver, Colo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred E. Jr. and Marie Da le, Lower Burrell, Pa. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 1994, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard E. Bethune officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Ellen Bovard Scholarship Endowment, at Camp Virginia Jaycees, Route 1, Box 860, Blue Ridge, VA 24064, to help send mentally retarded citizens to camp. BREWBAKER, Lula Edwards, 80, of Daleville, passed away Friday, October 14, 1994, at her home. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Sadie Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Brewbaker and her brother, James M. Smith. She is survived by her sister, Blanche Terry, Fincastle; also her devoted sister-in-law, Mary Lou Smith, Fincastle; and her nieces and nephew, Cindy Powell, Jimmy Smith, Kathy Smith, and Vicky Reynolds. CARPENTER, Isabel Ottillie, 93, of Vinton, departed this life to her Heavenly home on Saturday morning, October 15, 1994. She was born May 13, 1901 in Michigan City, Ind. and was married to the late William E. (Bill) Carpenter. Isabel loved homemaking, gardening, oil painting and her grandchildren. She is survived in loving memory by her two daughters, Thelma J. Knapp of Roanoke, Gloria J. Lovelace of Vinton; one son, David A. Carpenter of Clarksville, Md.; two sons-in-law, James B. Knapp and Grady W. Lovelace; one daughter-in-law, Sammie Ann Carpenter; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Clifford of Wanatah, Ind., and Evelyn Schumacher of Ellisville, Mo.; a brother, Benjamin Boldt of Wanatah, Ind. ECKARD, Danny Kaye, 46, of Bedford, passed away Friday, October 14, 1994, at his residence. He was born April 12, 1948, in Augusta County, a son of the late Russell Eckard and Bessie Sligh Eckard of Bedford, who survives. He was an employee of Georgia-Pacific and was a member of the Moose Lodge #1727. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, David R. Eckard, Big Island; two nephews, Russel Eckard, Sutherlin, Allen Eckard, Big Island; special friends, Gary and Jean Powell, Madison Heights. HORTON, Helen M., 78, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, October 15, 1994, in Heritage Hall Health Care Center, Blacksburg. She was born September 2, 1916, in Buffalo, New York. Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Horton, in 1970. She lived in the Buffalo area until 1981, when she moved to Blacksburg to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Peter Keciorius. She is survived by her daughter, Linda; a son, William P. Jr., also of Blacksburg; and a daughter, Barbara Florimont of New Jersey. Her grandchildren include, Rachele Nelson of Buffalo, Jim Florimont of New Jersey, Jenna and Douglas Horton of New Jersey, Katie Keciorius of Blacksburg, Jonas and Jonathon Wright of Buffalo; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Dylan Nelson, Buffalo. She was born October 6, 1928, to the late Henry D. and Minnie Dixon Jones. Mrs. Mann is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Carlton E. Mann; two daughters, Suzanne M. SMITH, Mac Duncan, 81, of Narrows, died Thursday, October 13, 1994, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born at Narrows on February 20, 1913, and was the son of the late William A. and Tine Hale Smith. He was a mail carrier in Narrows for 20 years and was a lifelong member of the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows. At the time of his retirement, he was the top blood donor in Giles County. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. He is su rvived by his wife, Drucie Frazier Smith; a daughter, Ellen S. Woodyard, Narrows; a son, James Robert Smith, Kingsport, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ted Wilburn, Charlotte, N.C., Rusty Wilburn, Indianapolis, Ind., Herbert Wilburn, Evansville, Ind., Barbara Elliott, Knoxville, Tenn., Kimberly Williams, Johnson City, Tenn., Michelle Alvarez, Newport Beach, Calif., and Jason Smith, Johnson City, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren.
