ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Sales by Roanoke Valley car dealers declined in September, but for the year to date were still well ahead of 1993.

The Virginia Automobile Dealers Association reported 639 new cars registered in Roanoke, Salem and Roanoke County last month, down 29.7 percent from 909 in August. Sales were off 18.7 percent from 786 vehicles a year ago.

For the first three quarters, dealers registered 7,210 new cars, 33 percent ahead of the 5,413 at the same point a year earlier. Of the new cars sold in September, 289 were registered in Roanoke, 255 in Roanoke County and 95 in Salem.
