HOLIDAY CUTS COAL PRODUCTION

Domestic coal production totaled 18.7 million tons during the week ending Oct. 8, down 9 percent from the 20.5 million tons produced the previous week, the U.S. Department of Energy reported Monday.

The week included the Columbus Day holiday.

The U.S. coal industry produced 18.7 million tons in the same week last year, according to the department's Energy Information Administration.
