With the influenza season just around the corner, area health facilities and businesses are setting up flu immunization clinics to combat the risks of catching the flu bug:

The health departments of the New River Health District are now offering scheduled flu and pneumonia shots through February with fees ranging from $7 to $16. For more information regarding times or costs, call your local office: Floyd County, 745-2141; Giles County, 921-2891; Montgomery County, 381-7100; Pulaski County, 980-1490; Radford , 831-5774.

The Christiansburg Kmart Store located at 1000 Laurel St. will offer flu vaccinations Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Nurses PRN will administer the flu shots. There is a $10 fee. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Lung Association. Call 382-3299.

The Center for Women's Health Education, New River Valley Mall, Christiansburg will offer an influenza and pneumonia immunization clinic, Oct. 25, 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., conducted by the Radford City Health Department. 381-6298. $7-16.

The Medicine Shoppe of Radford will offer in-store flu vaccinations, Oct. 27, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at its store located at 243 First Street. Nurses PRN will administer the flu shots, which cost $10. A portion of the proceeds for each shot will go to benefit the American Lung Association. Call 639-3996.
