Folk arts festival

BLACKSBURG - Authors Marilou Awiakta and H.G. Bissinger III will visit Radford University on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Awiakta, a native Cherokee Appalachian writer, will read at 11 a.m. on Heth Lawn in conjunction with the Appalachian Folk Arts Festival.

Bissinger, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and author of "Friday Night Lights," will sign copies of his book at 2:30 in the bookstore.

Christmas store

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Christmas Store will begin accepting used donations Monday, Oct. 24.

The store is need of volunteers to help set-up and decorate the store and to sort used goods.

Store hours for its daily operations beginning Monday, Oct. 31 will be as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; Wednesdays, noon-9 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

RADFORD - Radford University's Center for Gender Studies will give a presentation reactions to powerful women Friday. Oct. 21, noon-1 p.m., in Lounge C of Heth Hall.
