First Union Corp., Charlotte, N.C., parent of Roanoke-based First Union National Bank of Virginia, on Tuesday declared a quarterly cash dividend of 46 cents per share for its common stock, payable Dec. 15 to shareholders of Nov. 30.

Harris Teeter sales rise 11.8%
Harris Teeter Inc., Charlotte, N.C.-based supermarket chain, reported sales of $1.58 billion for its fiscal year ended Oct. 4, up 11.8 percent over $1.41 billion a year earlier. Same-store sales, those measuring units operating at least a year, were up 7.5 percent. For the fourth quarter, sales were $403.2 million, compared with $383.3 million a year earlier.
Harris Teeter as a subsidiary of Ruddick Corp. does not report separate net income.

Neocom lands furniture maker
Neocom Microspecialists Inc., a Martinsville software firm, said Monday it has received a contract from Lexington Furniture Industries of High Point, N.C., to create a program to automate many functions of the manufacturer's sales force.
Lexington's sales staff will be able to place orders with the factory, check the status of orders and communicate with the factory from personal computers, said Craig Koontz, vice president of information services for Masco Co., which owns Lexington.
Neocom already has other furniture clients, including Pulaski Furniture in the New River Valley, Stanley Furniture in Henry County and Virginia House Furniture in Atkins.
