American Electric Power Co., Columbus, Ohio, parent of Appalachian Power Co. of Roanoke, reported third-quarter earnings of $139.8 million, or 76 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $10.1 million, equal to 6 cents a share, in the 1993 quarter. Operating revenues were $1.39 billion, down from $1.41 billion a year earlier.
Stanley Furniture
Stanley Furniture Co. Inc., Stanleytown home furnishings manufacturer, reported third-quarter net earnings of $863,000, or 18 cents a share, compared with $1.2 million, or 26 cents, for the same period of 1993. Sales were $43.8 million, up from $42.7 million. For the first nine months, earnings were $1.4 million, or 58 cents a share, compared with $3.6 million, or 66 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales were $132.7 million compared with $119.2 million.
Scott & Stringfellow
Scott & Stringfellow Financial Inc., Richmond parent of a regional brokerage and investment banking company, reported net income of $589,000, or 28 cents a share, for its first quarter, ended Sept. 30. That compares with year-earlier income of $996,000, or 47 cents per share. Revenues totaled $12.8 million, down from $13.4 million.
Noland Co.
Noland Co., Newport News-based wholesale supplier of equipment to the building trades with operations in Roanoke, reported third-quarter net income of $1.5 million, or 39 cents a share, compared with year-earlier $1.2 million, or 32 cents a share. Sales were $117 million, up from $109 million. For the nine months, income was $3.3 million, or 89 cents a share, compared with $633,000, or 17 cents, a year earlier. Sales were $330 million against $302.4 million.
Federal-Mogul
Federal-Mogul Corp., Southfield, Mich., operator of an engine bearings plant in Blacksburg, reported third-quarter net earnings of $16.1 million, or 37 cents a share, compared with $10 million, or 26 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales were $445.3 million, compared with $370 million. For the nine months, earnings were $51.5 million, or $1.19 a share, compared with $32.8 million, or 93 cents a share. Sales were $1.38 billion, up from $1.18 billion.
