DEAD WOMAN FOUND IN CAR

The body of a 27-year-old woman was found in a car Tuesday, and the woman's boyfriend is being held in the Wythe County Jail, accused of punching a Wytheville police officer who was investigating the death.

The body of Lisa A. Moody, who was living at Northwinds Apartments, was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Roanoke for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Officers said there were no obvious gunshot or stab wounds, but there were abrasions and a little blood around her mouth.

The boyfriend, David R. Campbell Sr., who shared an apartment with Moody, called 911 about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday and said he had found Moody dead along North Fourth Street between the apartment complex and Dartan Service Center.

Police found the woman's body on the front passenger seat of a car that Campbell had been driving.

Campbell was arrested after he tried to drive away in the car despite a search warrant that police had obtained. Police say he scuffled with several officers and struck Lt. Marty Alford before being taken into custody.

He is charged with assault and battery of Alford, obstruction of justice and destruction of property.

The third charge refers to his trying to move the car before an investigation could be carried out.

Campbell was scheduled for a hearing Friday. No bond had been set Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities ask that anyone who might have information about the incident call Alford at (703)223-3300. Any information provided will be kept confidential.
