F-C STUNS MAGNA VISTA

Yvonne Hall had seven of her 11 points in the final quarter as Fieldale-Collinsville broke a tie and shocked Magna Vista 71-63 in a Piedmont District girls' basketball game Tuesday in Ridgeway.

The Cavaliers (9-6, 8-6) were led by Cicely Becker's 25 points.

Magna Vista (11-5, 8-5) was paced by Tanesia Kellam with 20 points.

George Wythe 62, John Battle 44: At Bristol, George Wythe's guard combination of Tonya Cregger, Shannon Crouse, and Mary Alice Turpin scored 29 points as the Maroons outlasted John Battle in the Hogoheegee District.

George Wythe (9-7, 7-5) got 12 points from Cregger, nine from Crouse, and eight from Turpin to pull away after trailing 15-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Bassett 54, Chatham 41: At Chatham, Heather Burke scored six of her 11 points in a decisive third-quarter run as Bassett overcame a sluggish first half for the Piedmont District victory over stubborn Chatham.

The Bengals (13-2, 12-1) outscored Chatham 16-4 in the third quarter after leading by three at halftime. Kim Hairston, Timesland's leading scorer, led Bassett with a game-high 16 points.

Juanita Crews led Chatham with 13 points.

Lord Botetourt 73, Rockbridge County 32: At Lexington, the Wildcats stayed close for a half but couldn't stop the Cavaliers' transition game in the second half.

Sarah Moore scored 11 points in the third quarter, as Lord Botetourt (10-5, 3-2) outscored Rockbridge County (0-15, 0-5) 29-3 to take control.

Tonia Clements led the Wildcats with 12 points.

Union Grant 40

Highland 37

MONTEREY - Mandy Carr scored 13 points, Mere Minnick had 12 and Jen Schwinbart added 10 as Union Grant defeated the Rams in a non-district game Wednesday.

Union Grant (10-5) used eight points off free throws to seal the victory.

Shyla Shumate scored 15 points for Highland (2-11) and Amy Neil added 10.
