WYTHEVILLE MAN CHARGED IN HIS GIRLFRIEND'S DEATH

A Wytheville man was charged with murder Wednesday in the death of his girlfriend early Tuesday.

An autopsy showed that 27-year-old Lisa A. Moody died of strangulation.

David R. Campbell Sr. already faced charges of assault and battery, obstruction of justice and destruction of property.

Campbell telephoned 911 at 2:44 a.m. Tuesday to report that he had found his girlfriend dead.

Police found Moody's body in the passenger seat of a car driven by Campbell near the Northwinds Apartments, where they lived together. Police said Campbell was arrested after he tried to drive the car away after they had obtained a warrant to search it. He is accused of hitting one of the officers while he was being subdued.

The car was parked on North Fourth Street between Northwinds and the Dartan Service Center. Police are asking anyone with information on the case to call Lt. Marty Alford at (703)223-3300.
