Schools apologize for teen-sex survey
HAMPTON - Parents of school students who were mistakenly given a premarital sex questionnaire have been sent letters of apology by Superintendent Billy K. Cannaday. The district failed to get permission from the parents of the sixth- through 10th-graders.
The Hampton Department of Social Services developed the ``pretests,'' which are supposed to measure students' knowledge of welfare and teen pregnancy before they get the part of the district's family life education class related to that topic.

Tractor pinned man more than 36 hours
WILLIAMSVILLE - A man was hospitalized Wednesday after being trapped under a farm tractor for nearly 36 hours.
John Flintom, 60, of Staunton, was listed in serious condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where officials would not discuss the nature of his injuries.
Flintom was operating a tractor on a farm early Monday afternoon in this northern Bath County community when the tractor flipped, pinning him underneath. A resident of the farm found Flintom around 11 p.m. Tuesday, and it took a rescue crew about an hour to free him, after which he was flown to Roanoke by helicopter.
