SALEM STOPS NORTHSIDE

Shellie Johnson scored nine points in the first half and Marilyn Huang added eight as Salem rolled to a 25-point halftime lead on the way to a 55-33 victory over Northside on Thursday night in a Blue Ridge District girls' basketball game on the Vikings' floor.

Salem (11-4 overall, 6-0 in the district), the top Blue Ridge team, used its pressure to force numerous turnovers and hold Northside (4-10, 1-5) to five field goals in the first half.

Sarah Palmer led the Spartans with 14 points and Johnson finished with 13.

Parry McCluer (12-3, 6-3) led by one point at halftime and used a full-court, man-to-man press in the third quarter to pull away from James River (3-12, 2-7).

Chrystal Humphries led the Blues with 12 points, and Clarrisa Johnson added 11.

Angie Johnson paced the Knights with 11 points.
