DUI-FIGHTING POLICE HONORED BY GROUP

People Against Impaired Drivers of the Roanoke area has recognized the law enforcement officers who have had the most arrests during the past year that resulted in convictions for driving under the influence.

Receiving the awards during a reception Thursday at the Vinton War Memorial were: Officer B.T. Smith, Bedford police; Deputy S.M. Krantz, Bedford County Sheriff's Office; Sgt. Larry Carr, Botetourt County Sheriff's Office; Deputy H.T. Woods, Franklin County Sheriff's Office; Deputy Johnny Puckett, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office; Ranger Robert Milliron, National Park Service; Officer J.L. Goad, Roanoke police; Officer M.A. Cromer, Roanoke County police; Officer Richard Goodman, Salem police; Sgt. Ron Barton, Vinton police; state Trooper Tim Steele; and members of a DUI task force: Officer A.J. Panebianco, Buena Vista police; Sheriff Bob Day and Capt. Chris Blalock, Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office; and Lt. Barry Smith, Buena Vista police.

The group also gave prevention awards to Roanoke-area Drug Abuse Resistance Education camp programs and special recognition for expanded programs to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Roanoke police and Salem police.
