TODAY'S TOPIC: SINGLE-SEX EDUCATION

What are your true feelings about enhancing and preserving single-sex education in the commonwealth regardless of funding source (all schools, private or public, receive some state support) and regardless of the gender of the student body?

- Clyde X. Copeland III, Lexington

COLEMAN: "Education experts across the political spectrum recognize the value of single-sex education, and I share that belief. We must make certain, however, that both sexes are afforded equal opportunities for same-sex education."

NORTH: "I support diversity in education and this may in certain circumstances allow single-sex schools. I support the present status of Virginia Military Institute for males. I believe a similar program can be established at another institution of higher education for females."

ROBB: "Improving the quality of education has been a priority throughout my career in public service. I've supported measures such as the Improving America's Schools Act and the Educate America Act because they will enable school systems to undertake both traditional and innovative educational programs. I have no bias for or against single-sex education; the goal is to ensure all children a quality education."
