Paint exchange set

BLACKSBURG - The Montgomery County Improvement Council and the Blacksburg Recycling office will sponsor a Latex Paint Exchange Oct. 29, 9 a.m.-noon, at the lower parking lot, Blacksburg High School.

The paint exchange will allow Montgomery County residents to dispose of reusable latex paint. Paint brought in for disposal must be latex-based, in the original container and in usable quality.

Paint from businesses, oil-based paints or other painting related chemicals will not be accepted.

Free paint is available to the public.

Nominations sought

CHRISTIANSBURG - The New River Arts Council seeks nominations for the 1995 Helen Dorsett Award of Excellence.

Individuals or organizations with outstanding work records in community arts activities are eligible for the award.

All nominees must have been residents of Craig, Giles, Floyd, Montgomery or Pulaski counties in 1994.

The nomination deadline is Nov. 15.

Army seeks volunteers

PULASKI - The Salvation Army - marking 75 years in the New River Valley this year - has begun its efforts to help the less fortunate this Christmas season. Last year, the Salvation Army's programs helped nearly 700 New River Valley families. The nondenominational organization seeks volunteers - groups, church, business and civic clubs, schools and individuals - to help with its Adopt-a-Kettle, Stocking Shop, Cans for Kids and Angel Tree programs.
