A look at lifestyles

"'Tis a Gift to be Simple: A Look at Lifestyles of the Rich and Tired," will be the theme of the Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe on Tuesday following a 7:45 breakfast in the cafeteria of Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem.

Kusse-Wolfe is minister of nurture at Williamson Road Church of the Brethren and a leader in the Society of Friends (Quakers). Her presentation is one of a series sponsored by the hospital's Department of Pastoral Care and by the Mental Health Association of the Roanoke Valley.

The meal is free, but reservations are needed; call 776-4730 today.

Homeless vigil

Sixteen junior-high youths of Antioch Church of the Brethren in Franklin County will simulate living homeless the night of Oct. 29. They will sleep in large boxes on the church parking lot.

The 12-hour vigil will be made in street clothes, with blankets donated by the congregation. The following day, they will describe their experience at the church service. They also are accepting canned food, winter clothing and blankets to be taken to a real shelter for the homeless. Call 561-5437.

Teens' Faith Quest

Registration is open for Faith Quest, a weekend conference for senior high youth to be held at Camp Bethel Conference Center in Botetourt County March 24-26. Sponsored by the Nurture Commission of the Virlina District, Church of the Brethren, the conference has been developed to give teens opportunities to deepen their spiritual lives before leaving home. The retreat costs $50. Call 774-4670 for more information.
