ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The inflation rate is running at 2.8 percent so far this year, but the increase is 3 percent from September 1993 to September 1994. At the end of September, the federal Consumer Price Index stood at 149.4 points, compared with 145.1 a year earlier.

That means a collection of goods and services costing $145.10 a year ago would have cost $149.40 last month. The rate was up from 149 at the end of August for an increase of 0.2 percent.

If the government had been using the former 1967 base, instead of an average between 1982 and 1984, the index would have stood at 447.5.

So the goods and services that cost $100 in 1967 would have cost $447.50 last month, a gain of 347.5 percent over the 27 years.
