ARNOLD, Roger Dale, 46, of Salem, died Sunday, October 23, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Melany Sawyer Arnold; two sons, Sebert Paul Arnold, Joshua Lee Arnold; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Arnold, Salem; two sisters, Mildred Guthrie Wheby, Lesa Arnold Smith, both of Salem. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 26, at noon at Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Harry Miller Jr. and the Rev. Jerry Deaner officiating. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Chapel.

BAYSE, Nellie Mae Peale, 87, of Roanoke, died late Saturday, October 15, 1994, in the Montgomery County Regional Hospital. She was a retired employee of The Roanoke Times & World-News and an original trustee and charter member of Valley View Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clyde Bayse. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald L. and Bonnie Bayse, Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Steve, Rick and Chandra Bayse; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen P. Butner, Roanoke; two devoted nieces and nephews, Al and Fran Martin, Roanoke, and W. H. (Bill) and Lois Wade, Christiansburg; two grand-nieces, Aldene and Anette Martin, Roanoke; also her special friends at Peppers Ferry Manor, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 1994, at Valley View Wesleyan Church, 2302 Oakland Blvd., with the Rev. Randy Garner officiating. BOARD, Louise Moore Bain, of 818 Anchor Drive, N.W., Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 1994. She was a member of the Woodmen of the World, a member of the Vinton Church of the Brethren, and Ladies Auxiliary #240. Surviving are her husband, William Nelson (Bill) Board; daughter-in-law, Doreen Dooley, San Antonio, Texas; two grandsons, Michael Dooley and his wife, Teresa, Georgetown, Texas, Paul Dooley and wife, Sandra, San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Heather Mascorro and husband, Raul, San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Melissa Mascorro, Joshua Mascorro, Stephanie Dooley; a brother, Marion Moore, Delphos, Ohio; four sisters, Frankie Allman, Jewel Simms, both of Roanoke, Fern Moore and Berta Moore, both of Wirtz; a sister-in-law, Adeline Moo re, Abingdon; two special friends, Arnold and Bertha Richardson, Roanoke. Funeral services will be at Oakey's North Chapel 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Maurice E. Wright and Rev. Jodie Hendricks officiating. Interment will be in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. BOON, John Edward, 62, of Burlington, N.C., died Tuesday, October 25, 1994, at his home after several months of failing health. Mr. Boon was born in Roanoke, Va. to the late Charles Wesley Boon and the late Maude Brown Boon and was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Edwin Boon. He retired after 27 years as a electronic tech with IBM in the Research Triangle Park and was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, N.C. Mr. Boon is survived by his wife, Barbara Moize Boon of the home; daughter, Catherine Boon of Alpharetta, Ga.; three sons, Robert Edward Boon, Douglas Boon, Dan Byrant Boon, all of Burlington, N.C; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Lorden of Roanoke, Mrs. Mary Lou Smith of Charlottesville, Mrs. Ann Helm of Salem. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 27, 1994, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Burlington, N.C. with the Dr. Craig McMahan and Rev. Jay Kennett. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mr. Boon will remain at Lowe Funeral Home throughout the service. BROWER, Mary Magelene Bailey, (``Peg""), 64, of 2318 Massachusetts Ave, Roanoke, departed this life at her home, Sunday, October 23, 1994. She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel (Big Andy) Brower, Roanoke; one son, Lake Downing, Roanoke; three daughters, Sara Thomas, Suitland, Md., Natalie and Celestine Brower, both of Roanoke; five grandchildren; three foster daughters, Mary Adeoti and Evelyn Brown, both of Hollins, Norma Anderson, Roanoke; foster mother, Mrs. Rosa Shepherd; one sister, Ann Harvey, Elliston; two brothers, Charles Stallings, Spotsylvania, Russell Stallings, Salem; one son-in-law, William Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Salem, with the Rev. James A. Braxton officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. CAUDLE, Larry Philip, 40, of South Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, October 21, 1994. Larry graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and Virginia Western Community College. He operated Caudle Refrigeration in South Daytona Beach. Larry was a much beloved son and brother and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by special friends, Sherrie and Casey Hensley; his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Heinz Huber; father, Billy d. Caudle; grandmother, Peggy Norton; sisters, Shari Saunders and Karen Kessler; brother-in-law, Tony Kessler; niece, Angel Adkins; nephews, Daniel, Michael and Christopher Kessler; several aunts, uncles and cousins. CLINGENPEEL, Lillian Hatcher, of Richmond. Formerly of Roanoke. Died Monday, October 24, 1994 . Mrs. Clingenpeel was the widow of Robert D. Clingenpeel, Sr. She was a retired secretary of Roanoke City Schools and a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D., Jr. and Sandy R. Clingenpeel, Glendale, Ariz., Michael J. and Vivian S. Clingenpeel, Richmond; two sisters, Lena M. Hatcher, Roanoke, Helen H. Dyson, Troutville; three brothers, Raymond S. Hatcher, Troutville, James E. Hatcher, and Robert C. Hatcher, both of Richmond; three grandchildren. COOK, Gladys Vernell, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, October 24, 1994. Survivors include one son, Willie Lee Cook; two daughters, Mary Paige and Marlene (Donald) Tinsley all of Roanoke; one brother, David Reynolds, Rocky Mount; four sisters, Emma Clement, May Sue Witcher, Ann Thomas and Virginia Cook; stepmother, Laurie Reynolds; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was an employee of Atlantic and Pacific Telcom Corporation, and is survived by his wife, Judith B. Good; a sister, Kathryn G. Hoback, Salem; and his mother-in-law, Maida P. Baker, Roanoke. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Wilma Quesenberry, Columbia, S.C., J.W. and Junko, Richmond, Jerry and Janice, Roanoke; three daughters, Loraine Smith, Chicago, Barbara and Bill Sifford, Rector, Ark., Betty Joyner, Salem; 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Pendleton, Shawville, Fred Pendleton, Elliston; a sister, Mildred Bayse, Elliston; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem on Thursday, October 27, 1994, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas C. Clay officiating. SAUER, Ava Ramona McCarthy, 46, of Roanoke, formerly of Taylor Mill, Ky., went to be with her Lord, on Monday, the 24th day of October, 1994, at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Dr. Kevin C. Kelleher and Martha McCarthy Kelleher, in Roanoke, Va. Also surviving are a son, Frank Robert Sauer; a daughter, Jessica Ruth Sauer, and her father, Frank E. Sauer, all of Edgewood, Ky.; also her parents, John R. Jr. and Ilene McCarthy, Smith Mountain Lak e and Winter Haven, Fla.; another sister, Mrs. Ruth McCarthy Cantrell, Salem; nieces and nephew, Kelly and Trey Cantrell, Meghan and Molly Kelleher. Ava graduated from Liberty High School in Bedford, Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, B.A. from Thomas More College in Fort Mitchell, Ky., Masters degree from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. She was an anesthetist at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Edgewood, Ky. and completed her career as a faculty member at the University of Cincinnati. She was also organist at Saint Pius Catholic Church in Edgewood, Ky. for many years. Swindler-Currin Funeral Chapel, Covington, Ky. is in charge of arrangements. She will be laid to rest at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ky. Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Salem, Va. on October 31, 1994, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.

STAMATAS, James Richard, (``Dick""), 59, of Dublin, died Sunday, October 23, 1994 in a Jacksonville, North Carolina Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Helen M. Stamatas of Dublin; a daughter, Kay DuPlissie of Bainbridge, Maine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Schoolfield and Ronald Gray Cashatt of Level Cross, N.C. and Deborah Schoolfield and Rev. Dale Kennedy of Lexington, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. and Cynthia Schoolfield Jr. of Floyd and Todd Douglass and Brenda Schoolfield of Newbern; one sister, Jean Stamatas Harman of Radford; a special friend, Sherry Schoolfield of Radford; nine grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. STEMATES, Robert George, 71, of Spring Grove, died Sunday, October 23, 1994, at John Randolph Hospital, Hopewell. He was born in Chicago, Ill., and was a son of the late Nicholas and Nettie Frances Carden Stemates. Mr. Stemates was a retired employee of Allied Signal Corp. and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1472, Hopewell, Past President of Claremont Ruritan Club, Member of American Legion Post #146, Hopewell, and the VFW Post in Hopewell. Surviving are his wife, Frances Pittman Stemates of Spring Grove; a son, Robert A. Stemates, Richmond; three daughters, Donna Maitland, Richmond, Debra Brandt, San Fran cisco, Calif., Mickey Crossett, Pinkney, Mich.; sister, Mrs. Jean Harman, Radford; two half sisters, Lucille Bridges, Wytheville, Helen Gordon, Belspring; stepdaughter, Patricia P. Shoemaker, Lexington, N.C.; stepson, Robert W. Pittman, Miami Beach, Fla.; two stepgrandchildren, Brian W. Shoemaker and Susan Shoemaker, both of Greensboro, N.C.; many nieces and nephews.
