MAN FOUND DEAD ON CAMPUS IS IDENTIFIED

The body found Sunday on the campus of Dabney Lancaster Community College has been identified as that of a 32-year-old New York man, according to a news release by Alleghany County Sheriff C.E. Simpson Jr.

Preliminary autopsy reports show that William J. Arnold of Norwich, N.Y., died either from natural causes or a drug overdose. There were no signs of foul play, Simpson said.

An investigation by the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office revealed that Arnold was last seen in New York on Oct. 19. Three days later, investigators believe he was in Kingsley, Pa., where he had car problems at an exit on Interstate 81.

On Sunday, his car broke down in Rockbridge County, near the Goshen exit on Interstate 64. At about 2:30 p.m. he got a ride to the Triangle Store, three miles east of Clifton Forge. Investigators believe that Arnold then walked six miles to the college. A custodian discovered Arnold's body, slumped against a brick wall, outside the student center about 8:30 p.m.
