The Salem Department of Parks and Recreation has announced winners from the 13th annual City of Salem Benefit Golf Tournament held at Salem Municipal Golf Course.
They are: Hue Sprouse, Dot Sprouse, Tom Bradley, Herman Chaney and Josh Chaney, first place with a score 59; Robbie Almond, Perry Skelton, Steve Altice and Ron Burton, second place with a score of 61; Karl Kummer, Dave Kummer, Mike Kummer and Evans Halstead, third place with a score of 61; and Frank Richards, Marions Ross, Shannon Altice and Shannon Altice Jr., fourth place with a score of 63.
Lewis Johnston shot closest to the pin in the morning round; and David Kummer shot closest in the evening round.
Proceeds from this year's tournament benefited the "Hook-A-Kid-On-Golf" Program and Dewey Gearhart, a heart-transplant candidate.
Wellness Challenge winners announced
Several people from the Roanoke area recently placed in the Wellness Challenge, sponsored by the Radford Community Hospital Wellness Center and the Radford Ruritans.
5-K run winners were:
23 to 29 year olds: Rusty Galbreath, Salem, first; Robert Bloomer, Salem, sixth; and David Elks, Vinton, 10th.
30 to 34 year olds: Jeff Wilson, Roanoke, second.
40 to 44 year olds: Jane Kneisley, Buchanan, second.
45 to 49 year olds: Terry Graham, Salem, first; Bill Charlton, Salem, second; B.E. Booth, Salem, eighth; James Sears, Roanoke, ninth; Rod Furr, Salem, 10th; Barry Brewer, Roanoke, 11th; and Francisco Vasquez, Salem, 13th.
60 and over: Alvin Smith, Roanoke, first and oldest overall finisher.
Christen Edwards of Roanoke placed third in the 2.5-K youth run.
