VERY HOT TICKETS

For those of you who missed the '60s experience of camping out at a box office in a desperate attempt to get tickets to a Grateful Dead or Rolling Stones concert, now's your chance to fill that void in your cultural portfolio - '90s style.

So, pack up your futon, slice a wedge of Brie and fill the portable wine chiller with Chardonnay. Tickets for Garrison Keillor and his ``A Prairie Home Companion'' gang go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center box office and TicketMaster outlets.

If you don't know by now that he'll be doing a live national broadcast from our fair city Nov. 19 at 6 p.m., you probably don't care. Feel free to move on to the TV listings.

If you're still reading, you deserve the following helpful hint: Local TicketMaster phone lines (343-8100) will be swamped. So, if you choose to forgo the ambiance of the civic center parking lot for the comfort of your home or car, you stand a much better chance of getting tickets if you call an out-of-town TicketMaster. Every charge-by-phone outlet has access to all available seats.

So call directory assistance for TicketMaster numbers in Virginia. (Out-of-state locations cannot sell tickets on the first day they go on sale.)
