AMOS, Matilda Walker, 62, of Glade Hill, died Friday, October 28, 1994 in the local hospital following a lengthy illness. Surviving are her husband, James C. (Jimmie) Amos Sr.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, J. Carroll Amos Jr., Redwood, Michael and Denise P. Amos, Union Hall; five grandchildren, Jennifer B. Amos, Jonathan B. Amos, Jamie A. Amos, A. Shilynn Amos, Sheena D. Amos; special friend, Tabatha Dent; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Ruth Walker, Glade Hill, Billy and Lena Walker, Ridgeway; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lona W. Doss, Rachel W. Jefferson, Nancy W. and Harry Lee, Jane W. Carter, all of Danville, Esther W. and Paul Dillon, Glade Hill; three sisters-in-law, Cordie M. Walker, Ruthie Walker, Garnett D. Walker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Howard and Florence Amos, Harold and Elizabeth Amos, Norman and Mavis Amos, Shirley McFadden, Raymond and Dutch Amos. Funeral services will be conducted at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church 2:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Franklin Reding and the Rev. J. D. Hunt III officiating. Interment will follow in the Amos Family Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3959 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 342 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.

DODSON, Howard, 86, of Figsboro, died Friday, October 28, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, McKee Funeral Service Chapel, Martinsville.

FERGUSON, Helen Deel, 87, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord Thursday afternoon, October 27, 1994. She was the widow of Jack B. Ferguson and daughter of the late Frank Leslie and Bessie Stoutamire Deel. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church, a retired secretary at the Roanoke City Water Department and Kinsey Sign Company, a member of The Organist Guild and The Thursday Morning Music Club. She was a former choir member at Trinity United Methodist Church, Huntington Court United Methodist Church, and Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Surviving ar e her sister and brother-in-law, Bessie and Warren Kinsey, Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank L. Jr. and Pat Deel, Jefferson City, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews including David and Neal (and wife, Kathy) Kinsey, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 31, 1994, from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with Dr. Daniel E. Scott officiating. Interment will follow in East Hill Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial constributions be made to The Virginia Heights Baptist Church Special Needs Fund (2014 Memorial Avenue, S.W., Roanoke, VA 24015). FUQUA, Robert M., 75, of Vinton, died Friday, October 28, 1994. Surviving are his wife, Verdine H. Fuqua; a son, Michael K. Fuqua, Vinton; a sister, Louise P. Horn, Vinton; also several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, October 31, 1994, at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, with the Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Vinton Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends at Lotz Vinton Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

GARRETT, Dora Wood Hamilton, 95, of Buena Vista, died Friday, October 28, 1994, in the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. She was born on February 3, 1899, in Amherst County, the dauther, Mary Ann Wood Beverly. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mascott Hamilton and Ashby C. Garrett and son, Artie Hamilton. Surviving are five daughters, Carrie R. Falls, Lexington, Myrtle R. Chiffum, Edna H. Garrett, Elizabeth H. Shafer, and Indee Dora H. Painter, all of Buena Vista; two half brothers, Jessie Beverly, Buena Vista and Hedges Beverly, Arnolds Valley; one half sister, Vera Alcorn, Arnolds Valley; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, October 30, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Buena Vista Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Pendleton and Rev. David Bain officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the L omax Funeral Home on Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m.

HORNE, Lushion Dewey, 92, of Jolo, W.Va., passed away Thursday, October 27, 1994, at his home. Born in Buchanan Co. he was the son of the late George and Cenna McKinny Horne. He was a retired carpenter and coal miner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Elizabeth Horne and by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Herman E. Horne of Logan, W.Va., Donald E. Horne of Bristol, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Lillian) Wimer of Goodview, Va., Mrs. Harman Frank (Beatrice) Sperry of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mrs. Edgar (Virgie Leah) Mullins of Roanoke, Va.; th ree sisters, Gertie Law of Doran, Va., Myrtle Hyvari of Hibbings, Minn., Edgar Underwood of Whitewood, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 30, 1994, 1 p.m. at the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va. with Elder Ezra Davis Jr. and Elder Landon Colley officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be: Daniel Liptak, Timothy Liptak, Alan Mullins, Bobby Horne, Blane Wimer, Dennis Wimmer, and Aaron Mullins. HOWELL, Cecil Willis, 78, of Roanoke, and formerly Canton, Ga., died Thursday, October 27, 1994. He was a retired letter carrier and a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher of Grandin Court Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Carl Gordon, Gwinn, Mich., Martha and Bruce Pratte, Springfield, Ohio; three sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Vickey Howell, Richmond, Michael Howell, San Antonio, Texas, Samuel Howell, Waldorf, Md.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Horace Howell, Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Rose Howell, Winnie Howell, Canton, Ga. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Carol Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel.

JENKINS, Annie Mae Porter, of Roanoke, passed away, Thursday night, October 27, 1994, at her home with her devoted daughters and her beloved granddaughter at her side. Annie fought a brave and valiant 10 month battle with cancer. She was the widow of George L. Jenkins, Sr. the daughter of the late James Allen Porter and Lillian Fielder Porter. Annie was born in Norfolk, Va. on August 2, 1917 and was raised in Crewe, Va. She has been a resident of Roanoke since 1940. Annie was a champion bowler in the 1960's. She was an absolute wonder with plants and flowers, she truly had a green thumb. She will be missed by all who knew her. Annie is survived by her daughters, Carole Jenkins and Peggy Owen; her granddaughter, Lisa Owen all of Roanoke; her son and his companion, George L. Jenkins Jr. and Joe Dungan, Crofton, M.D.; her son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Sunshine Jenkins, Lexington, S.C.; granddaughters, Kathy Lietzan, Chantilly, Va., Shelley Jenkins, Lexington, S.C.; grandson, George L. Jenkins III, Fairfax, Va.; great-grandson, James Michael Jenkins, Chantilly, Va. and her faithful pets, Chester and Daphne. We would like to thank Martha, Dale and Larry of Roanoke Memorial Hospice for everything they did to make a difficult time a little easier. Arrangements will be private. LANCASTER, Margie A., 68, of Christiansburg, died Friday, October 28, 1994 in Radford Community Hospital. She was the widow of Howard O. Lancaster and is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael C. Lancaster, Radford, Philip A. and Debbie L. Lancaster, Christiansburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sarah Lancaster, Mary C. and Carl Smith, all of Christiansburg; a grandson, Carl Dale Smith, Christiansburg; and special friends, Brenda and Joey Davis. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by Mr. James Thomas, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. MEREDITH, Evelyn Evangeline, 79, of Pembroke, died Thursday, October 27, 1994, in a Blacksburg hospital. Born in Giles County, she was a daughter of the late John P. and Roxie Atkins Albert. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Frank Dunbar and James Aubrey Meredith, a son John Frank Dunbar Jr., and a brother Averett E. Albert. She was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Pembroke. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles McMahan of Pembroke; two grandchildren, Marla Kim McMahan Marsh of Stafford, John Edward McMahan of Pembroke; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Thomas Marsh and Joshua McMahan Marsh, both of Stafford. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke with the Rev. Bobby Sutphin and the Rev. Eddie Ke ndall officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 to 8. NANCE, Ida Martin, 95, of Bedford, passed away Friday, October 28, 1994, in Oakwood Manor. She was born February 27, 1898, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Columbus Martin and Angie Meadow and Martin. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Milton Turner and Edward Nance. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she served as Postmaster of the Huddleston Post Office, and a member of Morgan's Baptist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Vera M. Cundiff of Roanoke and Ora M. Reid of Troutville. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 30, 1994, at 2 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Otis Overstreet at 1009 Galax St. Updike Funeral Home, Bedford is handling arrangements.

PULLANO, William Phil, 75, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Tuesday, October 25, 1994. Formerly of Roanoke, he was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. Mr. Pullano was a past Grand Knight of The Knights of Columbus, Council #562. He was also a member of the American Legend P ost #3, Roanoke and a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Fla. He retired from the Fred Whitaker Company and was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Phyllis Kay Pullano; wife, Kathryn R. Pullano; and a sister, Mary P. Crull, Calumet City, Ill. Surviving are his wife, Edie Pullano; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Sue and David R. Socky, Roanoke, Teri and Tom Scudieri, Escondido, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Penny Barbieri, Detroit, Mich.; sisters, Mollie Stone, Harper Woods, Mich., Rosa Barbieri, Utica, Mich., Grace Morello, Harper Woods, Mich., Angelina Firetta, Madison Heights, Mich., Hazel Stuckey, Stuckey, S.C., Virginia Parrish, Hilton Head Island, S.C.; three grandchildren, Nicholas Stephen Socky, Chantel Barbieri-Gyure and Charla Barbieri-Heimer. SHIRLEY, Divers Marie 74, of Salem, passed away Friday, October 28, 1994, at her home. She was retired after 24 years service, with The Roanoke United Methodist Home, she is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Alona H. Shelton, Roanoke, Seattle and Tommy Caldwell, Stewartsville; sister, Margaret G. Myers, Roanoke; granddaughters, Hope Seal,Vinton, and Pixie Craft, Roanoke; four great-grandchildren, Andy and Ashlee Craft, Laken and Michael Seal. She was also blessed with a special sister-in-law, Janette C. Gunter, Roanoke, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held noon, Monday, at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel by the Rev. Dennis Herman, officiating with burial to follow in the Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. or 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. Memorial gifts may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad.

VEITH, Laura Isabel Shaw, 92, of Radford, passed away Thursday, October 27, 1994, at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Radford. Survivors include two sons, John W. Veith Jr. of Radford, Daniel Albert Veith of Metairie, La.; 4 grandchildren and wives, Bill and Nancy Veith, Carol Veith, Richard Veith and Karen Veith; one great-grandchild, Laura Jeanne Price; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Holly and Kelly Hughes. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 31, 1994, at 10 a.m. at the Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans, La. WITT, Gladys Foutz, 86, of Blue Ridge, died Friday, October 28, 1994 in a local hospital. She was a member of Glade Creek Lutheran Church and was preceded in death by a son, Carlton T. Witt. Surviving is her husband of 66 years, C. S. (Duck) Witt; two sons and three daughters-in-law, W. M. (Petie) and Mary Witt, Roanoke, Ronnie and Darlene Witt, Blue Ridge, Jean D. Witt, Troutville; grandchildren, David and Debbie Witt, Blue Ridge, Carol and Jim Dyer, Roanoke, Teresa and Bill Arney, Troutville, Kimberly Witt, Richmond; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Krisha Witt; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Glade Creek Lutheran Church 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 1994 with the Rev. Robert J. Maier and the Rev. Guy A. Ritter officiating.
