Michael Elais Nassif, 32, was arrested shortly after the incident was reported about 7:30 a.m., according to city police.
The woman, who worked as a home-care nurse, told police the attack happened as she arrived at the patient's Grandin Road area home.
She said a man who was standing at the top of a stairwell forced her into a bedroom and raped her. Responding to a call from the woman, police arrived and arrested Nassif minutes later on Memorial Avenue.
In other police reports Friday:
A Northwest Roanoke man nearly bled to death Thursday after being stabbed in the leg at his Hanover Avenue home. Responding to a call at 1:34 p.m., police found Bruce Wells, 39, lying on his blood-covered kitchen floor. Wells was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in critical condition, but his condition later was upgraded to stable.
Police said that charges were pending against a woman who was at Wells' side when they arrived.
A 67-year-old Roanoke man was beaten and robbed early Friday as he arrived at work at Roanoke Fruit and Produce Co. on Fourth Street Southeast. Guy Scott told police that five teen-agers circled him and asked for his wallet as he got out of his car about 3 a.m.
The youths fled after taking Scott's money and jewelry, striking him in the face and slashing his car tire, police said. Police found the youths about a block away and charged them with robbery.
