FLASHY STORIES OF COOL CARS, ZOMBIES IN ARMANI

The Informares. By Bret Easton Ellis. Knopf. $22.

Okay, so there are plenty of reasons to dislike the writing of Bret Easton Ellis, and most critics will fervently outline those reasons until somebody is blue in the face. Yes, his characters are shallow, brain dead, promiscuous, graphically violent and self-indulgent, and though the author seems concerned by the people he writes about, he isn't very skillful at encouraging the reader to share his concern.
