RICHARDSON'S EFFORTS WERE NOTHING TO GROUSE ABOUT

About this time of year, when the leaves on the hardwoods in Highland County turn from the bright colors of autumn to the earthy hues of winter, Bruce Richardson Jr. would tell friends and even strangers, "Come on up and I'll try to put you into some grouse hunting."

When the grouse season opens Monday, many of us are going to miss that invitation. But even if we never got around to taking Richardson up on it, we knew the offer was warm and genuine.
