WALL FALLS, INJURES FIREFIGHTER

A Floyd firefighter was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after the front wall of a burning house tumbled down on top of him.

Floyd Fire Department Assistant Chief Timothy Vest was the first firefighter to approach a house fire on Virginia 681 about 2 p.m., according to Chief Derwood Agee.

Vest was treated and released from Montgomery Regional Hospital. Agee said Vest suffered a crushed vertebra and was told to stay in bed for six weeks.

Agee said he is unsure what started the blaze. He said the house was destroyed.
