REPORTED EARNINGS

Cooper Industries

Cooper Industries Inc., Houston parent of the Crouse-Hinds electrical products plant in Roanoke, reported a third-quarter net loss of $237.4 million, equal to $2.20 per share, on revenues of $1.14 billion, compared with year-earlier net income of $85.6 million, or 75 cents, on revenues of $1.23 billion. For the nine months, the net loss was $105.4 million, equal to $1.27 per share, on revenues of $3.35 billion, compared with net income of $264.9 million, or $1.97, on revenues of $3.62 billion.

Georgia-Pacific

Georgia-Pacific Corp., Atlanta forest products company with operations at Big Island in Bedford County, reported third-quarter net income of $87 million, or 98 cents per share, on sales of $3.28 billion, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $36 million, equal to 42 cents per share, on sales of $2.98 billion. For the nine months, net income was $141 million, or $1.59 per share, on sales of $9.44 billion, compared with year-earlier income of $2 million, or 2 cents, on sales of $9.13 billion.

Pittston Co.

Pittston Services Group, the Pittston Co.'s class of common stock reflecting its Burlington Air Express, Brink's Inc. and Brink's Home Security Inc. units, reported third-quarter net income of $25 million, or 66 cents per share, compared with $15.3 million, or 41 cents, a year earlier. For the nine months, net income was $56.8 million, or $1.50 per share, compared with $31.7 million, or 86 cents. Revenues for the quarter were $143.9 million for Brinks, up from year-earlier $123 million; $27.9 million for Brink's Home Security, up from $22.5 million, and $311.9 million for Burlington, up from $254.8 million.
