SLOW START NO PROBLEM FOR FLOYD CO.

Floyd County trailed after one quarter, but Carrie Chaffin bombed away in the second quarter and the Buffaloes rolled to a 79-46 non-district girls' basketball victory over Galax Monday night.

Chaffin scored 16 points and made three 3-pointers in the second quarter, as Floyd County (19-0), Timesland's top-ranked team rallied from a 14-13 first-quarter deficit.

It was the second time in the last three games that the Buffaloes have trailed after a quarter.

Floyd County outscored the Maroon Tide 24-5 in the second quarter to take control. Galax (15-4) committed 16 turnovers in the period.

Leigh-Ann Pursifull led the Buffaloes with 20 points. Chaffin scored 18 and Sowers added 13.

Tammy Cox led the Tide with 16 points, Candi Owen had 10.
