WEATHER-RELATED CRASH KILLS MAN

A Charlottesville man was killed Tuesday on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County when a gust of wind blew the van in which he was a passenger into a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the highway.

John Carol Sisson, 25, was riding in a van driven by Michael Wayne Brown that was headed north near Virginia 643 just outside of Salem, according to a state police report. At about 2:45 p.m., the van was blown off the right side of the road. It struck a pickup truck and spun back into the road, where it was hit by an oncoming tractor-trailer, the report said.

Sisson was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:05 p.m. The report said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
