AMENDMENT SUPPORT URGED|

The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution urging voters to support Constitutional Amendment 2 on Tuesday's ballot to make two Virginia laws conform with new federal laws.

Virginia now requires that voter lists be automatically purged of people who have not voted in four years, and that voters register in person before a registrar. New federal laws allow voters to register by mail and to stay on the voting lists until they either die, move or their voting privilege is revoked for some reason, such as conviction for a felony.

If these laws remain unchanged, Virginia registrars will have to keep two sets of registrations for state and federal elections which will be time-consuming and expensive.

The supervisors also adopted a resolution joining other localities in observing November as National Hospice Month, and encouraging citizen support for hospice programs and volunteers caring for those who are terminally ill.

The resolutions were approved Oct. 24.
