PRINCE WILLIAM WANTS DISNEY TO PAY MORE

Walt Disney Co. has paid Prince William County $261,000 for expenses the county incurred during the failed plan to build a theme park near Haymarket, but the county wants another $398,000.

After receiving a final payment Friday from Disney on the $261,000 expense, the county's supervisors voted 7-1 on Tuesday to send the company another bill. County officials said the additional $398,000 is needed to cover costs involved with studying the Disney's America park proposal and for fighting lawsuits associated with the project.

Disney, which has abandoned the plan to build the park in the county, paid the $261,000 for rezoning fees and other expenses related to its application.

Disney's America president Dana Nottingham said the company considers the matter closed now that the $261,000 has been paid.

``We are confident that we have fully complied with the letter and the spirit of all our obligations,'' Nottingham wrote in a letter to County Executive Jim Mullen.

But Mullen said Disney has a moral responsibility to pay the additional $398,000.
