North Roanoke soccer team named champs

The 7- and 8-year-old North Roanoke Recreation Club Rowdies were named the 1994 soccer champions for the Instructional Division.

The team completed their season with a record of nine wins and one loss. King Harvey and James Hill were the team's coaches.

Team members are: Cory Lawson, Akeem Harvey, Luke Martin, Evan Sadler, Jenny Usberghi, Katie Usberghi, Ben Creasy, Brandon Perigen, James Hinkle, Jasper Connor, Joshua Schmitt, Mary Barton, Alisha Smith, Bryan Hill and Dustin Scott.

Riding team places in state competition

The Roanoke Valley Therapeutic Riding Program team recently competed at the Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia Annual Horse Show for the Disabled. The show was held at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.

The team finished second in competition for the Operating Center High Point Award. This award goes to the center whose riders accumulate the most points over the course of the show.

Roanoke riders who participated were: Amy Keiser, Molly Jo McCubbin, Kathleen Gauley, Stuart Moen, Sarah Moen, Katie Whitlock and Amanda Wade. Those riders from Botetourt County were: Annie Parrish and Katie Austin. Teresa Maguire of Salem also participated.

Volunteer assistants from Roanoke were: Belinda Harris, Lee Martin, Marcie Petrocci, Michaellyn Berhaupt, Anna Vandergriff and Maggie Moen.

Also, Leanne Driscoll of Vinton, Ann Austin and Mike Parrish of Botetourt County; Janet Wynot and Helen Young of Bent Mountain and Jim Maguire of Salem.
