BRIAN BAILEY, son of Larry and Bonnie Bailey of Roanoke, will attend the Karl-Franzens University of Graz in Graz, Austria, as an international exchange student from Virginia Tech.
NORTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL recently competed in two marching band competitions.
At the sixth annual Bedford County Invitation Marching Band Competition, the band placed first in music, marching and maneuvering, general effects and auxiliary; second in percussion; and third overall. The competition was a cooperative effort by Staunton River, Liberty and Jefferson Forest high schools.
At the Third Annual Blue Demon Classic held in Christiansburg, the band won third place drum major, second place guard unit, received a Superior Rating and placed second for the AA division.
DEBBIE HUNNELL of Roanoke and ROBYN MUNDY of Daleville are among 10 students recently selected to the varsity cheerleading squad for the Emory & Henry College football team.
Members of the team were chosen by competitive tryouts.
Hunnell is the daughter of Linda Hunnell. Mundy is the daughter of Sue and Jack Mundy.
ANGELA WHATELY, daughter of Travis and Mary Whately of Roanoke, has been selected to the honors program at Longwood College.
Whately, a freshman liberal studies major, is a graduate of Northside High School.
