NARROWS AND GALAX FACE PLAYOFF GAME

INDEPENDENCE - Suzanne Webb scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as Narrows beat Grayson County 57-31 on Thursday night to secure a first-place tie with Galax in the Mountain Empire District.

The Green Wave will play the Maroon Tide in a one-game playoff to decide the district champion Monday night at Fort Chiswell. Galax defeated Rocky Gap 56-34 on Thursday to lock up its share of first place.

Narrows (13-7 overall, 8-2 in the district) opened the game with an 11-2 run and never looked back. Melissa Lucas finished with 10 points for the Green Wave.

Lindsay Carico scored 10 points for Grayson County (5-13, 4-6).

Galax 56

Rocky Gap 34

GALAX - The Maroon Tide used a big third quarter to overwhelm the Eagles in a Mountain Empire District game. The victory gave Galax a share of the district crown with Narrows.

Jacyln Dickens and Tammy Cox accounted for most of the third-quarter damage, scoring 12 and eight points, respectively, and all but three of the Maroon Tide's points in that period. Cox finished with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Dickens finished with 14 points, including two 3-pointers for Galax (16-5, 8-2).

Rocky Gap (6-15, 4-6) was led by Nancy Tupper's 15 points.

APPOMATTOX - The Minettes (15-5, 15-5) rallied from a one-point deficit to beat Raiders (8-12, 8-12) in a Seminole District game.

Liberty was led by Kellea Whorley with 12 points. Sue Cowlbeck had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Brookville 49

Staunton River 39

LYNCHBURG - Kristie Fisher scored 21 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Bees past the Golden Eagles in the Seminole District.

Brookville (12-8) got 11 points from Meghann Morris.

Staunton River (11-9) was led by Courtney Hurd's 14 points and Penny Forrest's 10.

Floyd County 79

Shawsville 40

FLOYD - The Buffaloes roared to a 43-26 halftime lead and cruised to a Three Rivers District victory.

Floyd County (21-0, 8-0) got 17 points from Leigh-Ann Pursifull and 16 from Carrie Chaffin. Laura Harmon added 11 points for the Buffaloes.

Shawsville was led by Robin Burdette with 14 points and Brandy Alexander with 12.

Auburn 39

Radford 31

RINER - The Eagles shot poorly, but their defense forced enough turnovers to compensate in a Three Rivers District victory.

Auburn (11-9, 4-4) missed 37 of 51 shots from the floor (27 percent), but committed only eight turnovers. Radford (7-13, 0-8) was almost as bad from the floor- the Bobcats shot 30 percent (13-for-46).

Amy Davis scored 11 points for Auburn. Crystal Hubbard led Radford with 16.

Christiansburg 40

Giles 38

CHRISTIANSBURG - Crystal Moles sank a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to give the Blue Demons a non-district victory over the Spartans.

Moles and Maureen Jackson led Christiansburg (11-9) with 12 points each.

Giles got a team-high 13 points from Tomika Saunders.
