Clergy and lay delegates from Southern Baptist congregations throughout Virginia will gather Nov. 15 and 16 at the Salem Civic Center for their annual business and inspirational meeting.
One item of business is a proposal to change the manner in which congregations are represented at the state meeting. Instead of allotting representation on the basis of how much money is given to the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program and the state missions offering, a proposal would change the basis to giving to state missions and causes.
Two candidates will be voted on for president: Margaret Wayland of Danville and John Simms of Roanoke.
Conference of Brethren
The annual conference of Churches of the Brethren in the Virlina District is scheduled Nov. 11 and 12 at Bonsack Baptist Church. "Live Peaceably with All" will be the theme. Keynote speakers will be the Rev. Robert Jones, retired associate executive of the district and now pastor of the Monte Vista Church; Theresa Eshbach, a staff member of Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, Ind.; and Miyoko Matsubara, a Japanese national retired from a peace culture center. She is a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.
