ALBERT, Thelma Marie, 87, of Radford, passed away Saturday, November 5, 1994, at Hertiage Hall Nursing Center. She was a member of Carter Street United Methodist Church in Radford, and was a retired employee of Radford Community Hospital. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Charlene Albert of Radford; three grandchildren, Barbara Jean Fain and Betty Jo Nixon, both of Pulaski, and Wanda Gail Albert of Radford; six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 8, 1994, at 2:00 p.m. at the West View Cemetery in Radford, with the Rev. Harold Russell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
ALEXANDER, Doris Allen, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 4, 1994. She was the daughter of Mary E. Brown Allen and Roscoe Miller Allen. She was a member of the Mary McKendree Circle of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, a member of the BPOE Lodge #197 Auxiliary, a Red Cross Volunteer, manager of the Roanoke Postal Employees Federal Credit Union for 10 years, a volunteer for the Roanoke City Social Services, and an arbitrator for the Roanoke Better Business Bureau. She is survived by her husband, Marshall Huffman Alexander; two sons, Daniel Gary Alexander, Gregg Allen Alexander, MD; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Allen Alexander; and her niece, Betty Jane Alexander Swecker; and a host of many other relatives and other loyal friends. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel. Cryptside services will be conduc ted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 1994 at Evergreen Burial Park, weather permitting, with Dr. Alton Washington officiating. BELLUS, Louis Joseph, 94, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, November 4, 1994, at the Veteran's Hospital in Salem. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Sands of Williamsburg, Mrs. Dorothy Demko of Rosedale, N.Y.; as well as the loving and devoted family of Linda and Billy Parsley of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Kimberly and Bill Sands, Carol, Michael and Robert Demko. He served in World War I from 1916 - 1919. He was a machinist and worked for Sperry Gyroscope in New York. Graveside services will held no on Monday, November 7, 1994, at Sherwood Memorial Park. Mr. Blakeslee was born in Pennsylvania on August 5, 1919, a son of the late Matthew and Nellie Rickolt Blakeslee. He is survived by his wife, Margie Hill Blakeslee; one daughter, Peggy Crawford, Blacksburg; two grandsons, Chris Crawford, Greensboro, N.C., James Crawford, Charlotte, N. C.; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Gladys Smith, Blacksburg; three nephews, David Blakeslee, Raleigh, N.C., two special nephews, James Blakeslee, London, Ohio, and Alfred Smith, Blacksburg; a special friend, Lee Wolfle, Blacksburg. BUCHANAN, Frances Beatrice Reynolds, of Pearisburg, died Saturday morning, November 5, 1994 at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Buchanan was born on August 7, 1939 in Pearisburg, Va. and was a daughter of the late Ulmont B. and Beatrice Sadler Reynolds. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Womens Club. She is survived by her husband, Jack M. Buchanan, Pearisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe B and Nora Buchanan, Pulaski; two brothers, Carrel G. Reynolds, Bastion, Va., U. B. Reynolds Jr., Peterstown, W. Va.; one granddaughter, Lori Buchanan, Pulaski. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 7, 1994 at Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Randy Pittman officiating. BURTON, Allen Mason, 79, of Narrows, died Friday evening, November 4, 1994, in a Giles hospital. He was a retired employee with the State Highway Department in Bland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha H. Burton, in 1991, and a son, Hampton Burton in 1960. DUDLEY, Elmer Carlisle, (``Doc''), 80, of Salem, died Friday afternoon, November 4, 1994, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem. He was born in Montgomery County on October 17, 1914, and was employed at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem for 28 years. A combat veteran during World War II in the European Theater, he served with the 69th Infantry Division. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and is survived by his wife, Mildred R. Dudley; two sons, Alvin Dudley, Roanoke, Dennis Dudley, Salem; a brother, Melvin Dudley of Fagg, Va.; three sisters, Thelma Swinney of Glade Hill, Vera Wrenn and Helen Durham both of Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Cynthia Dudley, Melissa Roberts, Kevin Dudley all of Roanoke. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Chapel in Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Charles Doyle with burial in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. GAINES, Frank Donald, 58, of Lexington, died Saturday, November 5, 1994 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gaines was born August 6, 1936 in Jamaica Long Island, New York, a son of the late Donald C. Gaines and Grace M. Gaines Plante. He was a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, the Fairfield Moose Lodge, a past member of the Kerrs Creek Fire Department and also a past member of other fire departments in the Shenandoah Valley. He was a veteran of the U .S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Gaines owned and operated the Kerrs Creek General Store. Surviving are his wife, Jennie K. Gaines; four children, Karen Frances Martin, Nellysford, Va., Sharon Lynn Hager, New Hope, Va., Donald Gaines and Ronald Gaines, both of Staunton, Va.; one stepson, Wayne Rhodenizer Jr., Lexington, Va,; one brother, Donald Gaines, Casselberry, Fla.; four granddaughters; and four stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, November 7, 1994, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Lanny Horton and Father J. Morton Biber officiating. MITCHELL, Alice Virginia Fitzpatrick, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, November 3, 1994 in a local hospital after a long illness. She was born January 7, 1914 a daughter of John E. and Junia Huff Fitzpatrick. She attended Vinton High School and William and Mary College. She worked for the Piedmont Label Plant in Bedford, the U.S. Government, Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern as an illustrator and was an artist and loving mother. She was a member of Vinton Baptist Church. She is survived by her former husband and friend, Earl Mitchell of California; a daughter, Earlene Mitchell of Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Junia and Mark Sigsworth of California; a daughter, Barbara Mitchell of Vinton; three granddaughters, Karen Holzer, Vanessa Lubin, Florida, Virginia Johnson California.; one grandson, David Johnson, California. ; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Vinton; several nieces and nephews. SHAFFER, Jesse Eugene Sr., 60, of 1005 Dunlap Road, Dublin, Virginia passed away Saturday, November 5, 1994, in the Radford Community Hospital. Born November 15, 1933 in West Virginia. He was the son of the late Charles Basil Shaffer and Lola Bess Shaffer Godby. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, John A. Godby. He was a Security Guard with the Lynchburg Foundry Radford, Va. and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Jean Horton Shaffer, Dublin, Va.; four sons, Jeffrey Shawn Shaffer, Dublin, Va., Scott Daren Shaffer, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, Jay Shaffer, Jamestown, N.C., Steve Shaffer, Princeton, W.Va.; two granddaughters; two grandson; a very special sister, Polly Ayers, Dublin, Va. WASKEY, Raymond R., 85, of Roanoke, died Saturday, November 5, 1994. Mr. Waskey was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway after 49 years of service. He was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. Mr. Waskey was well known in the Roanoke area as a basketball official at all levels--recreation, high school, and college. In 1934, he organized one of the first sandlot football teams in Roanoke, the Highland Red Devils. In 1941, Coach Waskey joined the coaching staff of Jefferson High School as a volunteer football coach and served for 17 years. He later served in the same capacity at Cave Spring High School for 28 years. Mr. Waskey was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Alice Pring Waskey. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carlton and Mary Ann Waskey, Roanoke; grandsons, Scott Waskey, Charlottesville and Stephen Waskey, Roanoke; niece, Anita Gunter, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 12 noon Monday, November 7, 1994, with Dr. William R. Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park.
