VISITING SCHOLAR

Linda Seidel, professor of history at the University of Chicago, will be the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar at Washington and Lee University from Wednesday through Friday.

Seidel will present a public lecture, ``Burdens of Matrimony: Painting and Social Practice in the 15th Century,'' Wednesday at 5 p.m. in duPont Auditorium. She will also present this seminar at Hollins College on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the college's Green Drawing Room.

Back at W&L, she will lead a seminar, ``From Reality to Virtual Reality,'' on Thursday from 1-3 p.m. On Nov. 11 from 2-4 p.m., she will present a seminar on ``The Lure of the Levant: Medieval Art and the Image of the Holy Land.'' Both seminars will be held in duPont Auditorium. Anyone wishing to attend should contact W&L's art department (463-8460) for reading material.
