ALLEN, Donald B., 74, of The Plains, Va., died on Sunday, November 6, 1994, at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Va. He was born in White Gate, Va. and raised in Bland County on the family farm, Maple Green, the son of George A. and Ethel Newberry Allen. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific as a horse Cavalry Officer. From 1941 to 1953, except for his time in the service, he was an Associate Professor at VPI. He resigned in 1953 to manage the Marriott Farm, Fairfield, in Hume, Va. While Farm Manager at Fairfield, he bred cattle, sheep and horses which were sold across the United States. Also during his time with Fairfield he entertained a wide array of public and private personalities including several Presidents. He was a founding member of the Fauquier Livestock Association where he had also served as president. He was instrumental in founding Virginia's current land use legislation and the Fauquier County Feeder Calf Association. He was a longtime member of the Leeds Ruritan Club and was active for years with the Fauquier County 4-H program. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, The Plains, Va. Mr. Allen is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Mrs. Jane H. Allen, The Plains; his two sons, Donald B. Allen, Jr., Yorktown, Va. and David Hoge Allen, Hampton, Va.; two brothers, George A. Allen, Jr., Blacksburg, Va. and Edwin Bird Allen, Fairfax, Va. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Donald B. Allen III, Jane A. Allen, both of Yorktown, Whitney E. Allen and Sam Hoge Allen, both of Hampton. Friends will be welcomed Wednesday, November 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, Va. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 10, 1994, at Grace Church, The Plains, Va., at 11 a.m. The Rev. Zachary Fleetwood will officiate. BOWLES, Rachel Law, 84, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, November 6, 1994, at her home. Born December 18, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Bogie Oglesby and Cassie Fralin Law. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wiley Bowles. Surviving are one daughter, Jeanette B. COLMANO, Miranda, 69, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, November 6, 1994, at home. She was a native of Pola, Italy and resided in Virginia for 32 years. She was a retired LPN and Operating Room Technician from Montgomery County Regional Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Germille Colmano; her son, Marino Colmano, Los Angeles, Calif.; her daughter, Helen Sutton, Yorktown; her son Carlo Colmano, Blacksburg; and two grandchildren. KING, Robert Lee, 46, of Christiansburg, died Friday, November 4, 1994, at his residence. He was born December 13, 1947, in Bronx, N.Y. He is the son of the late Alfred Blanding and Louise King. He served as a merchant seaman for three years. He is a veteran having served in the United States Army. He attended Old Westbury Community College in Westbury, N.Y. KINLEY, Brigadier Squire James, of Roanoke, died Monday, November 7, 1994. He was born on April 4, 1917, to Martha and Walter Kinley of New Goshen, Indiana. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 1938 and married another Salvation Army officer, Captain LaRue Kieffer in 1942. Together they served as pastors of Salvation Army churches in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Their last appointment before retirement in 1980 was Havre deGrace, Maryland. Since retirement, they have lived in Roanoke. Brigadier Kinley is survived by his wife, LaRue; one sister, Mrs. Clyde (Lula Mae) Ellis; two children, Major Lon Kinley and Mrs. Captain Jim (Jean) Deuel; five grandchildren, Mrs. William (Teresa) Coffin and Scott Kinley, Jennifer, Christopher and Benjamin Deuel; numerous nieces and nephews. The services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, at The Salvation Army, 724 Dale Ave., S.E., in Roanoke, with committal following in Evergreen Burial Park. The service will be conducted by Captain Harold D. Hinson, former minister of The Salvation Army in Roanoke. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. SARTELLE, Dr. Preston Orr Sr., 85, of 3030 Mastin Lane, Montgomery, Alabama, and formerly of Draper, and Bristol, Va., died Mond ay morning, November 7, 1994 in the VA Hospital, Montgomery, Ala. He was born in Red Key, Indiana on November 15, 1908, and was the son of the late Harry Miller Sartelle and Bessie Orr Sartelle. Dr. Sartelle was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a Chaplain during WWII, serving the 4th Marine Division. Dr. Sartelle attended VMI in Lexington and he was a graduate of Hampdon-Sydney College, and was also a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas. Dr. Sartelle taught at King College, Bristol, Va. and Graham Bible College. Dr. Sartelle pastored Presbyterian churches in the following areas; Capron Bridge, W. Va., Grundy, Va., Draper's Valley, Va., and Bristol, Va. and Tennessee. He was preceded in death by one son, Rev. Michael Sartelle and by one sister, Mary Louise Bauserman. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen Sartelle, Mongtomery, Ala.; two daughters, Pat Cooper, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Susan Jett, Marion, N.C.; two sons, Rev. Preston O. Sartelle Jr., Draper, Rev. John Sartelle, Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Patsy Dieckman, Ripley, Ms.; two brothers, John Edward Sartelle, Harry Sartelle, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. THOMPSON, Ella Hatcher, 98, of Natural Bridge, died Monday, November 7, 1994, in the Stonewall Jackson E.C.F. Mrs. Thompson was born May 21, 1896, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Henry Milton Hatcher, Jr. and Mary Ellen Hartigan Hatcher. She was a life member of the High Bridge Presbyterian Church, a member of the church choir and taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She was also a life member of the Family and Community Education Club. Mrs. Thompson was a correspondent for The News Gazette for over 50 years. She was proceed ed in death by her husband, William James Thompson and three children, Odessa T. Ellis, Margie T. Scott and William J. Thompson, Jr. Surviving are three children, Robert Bruce Thompson, Scottsville, Va., Evans L. Thompson, Natural Bridge, Mildred T. Board, Christiansburg; two sisters, Mrs. Mable Harrison, Natural Bridge Station, and Mrs. Katie Moore, Buena Vista; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 1994, at the High Bridge Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Glenn M. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
