IN SERVICE

U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. JACK H. ATKINSON JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack H. Atkinson of Shawsville, retired Oct. 1 from Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C. During his 21-year career, he received numerous honors, including two Meritorious Service Medals, a Commendation Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with two devices and National Defense Service Medal with one device. The Vietnam and Desert Storm veteran plans to reside in Greenville, S.C., with his two daughters, Amanda and Kristin, and to marry his high school sweetheart of 21 years ago, Linda Cash Donnells.

Marine Pfc. ROGER CROY JR., son of Brenda Croy of Radford, is one of 6,000 Navy and 2,000 Marine Corps members patrolling the waters off the coast of Haiti. Croy, a combat engineer, is part of the Marine force aboard the USS Nashville, an amphibious transport ship, home-ported in Norfolk.

Army Spec. FREDERICK W. ROLLER, son of Pauline T. Roller of Dublin, has reported for duty at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. Roller is an infantryman.

Air Force Airman CLIFFTON S. PHILLIPS, son of Samuel D. Phillips of Draper and Nancy Y. Phillips of Pulaski, has reported for duty at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, S.D. Phillips is a special-purpose vehicle mechanic.

Navy Seaman Recruit JOHNATHAN E. COCHRAN, son of Brenda M. Cochran of Christiansburg, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class WILLIAM S. AKERS, son of Robert W. and Brenda S. Akers of Floyd, has reported for duty at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach.

Servicemen return from off the coast of Haiti:

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class MARK E. ROOPE, son of Rosa R. Rogers of Dublin, was aboard the aircraft carrier USS America.

Navy Seaman Recruit THOMAS K. VAUGHT, son of Virgil T. Baught of Narrows, was abroad the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class STEVEN R. ROBINSON, son of Robert R. and Jane D. Robinson of Blacksburg, was aboard the aircraft USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Robinson's wife, Donna, is the daughter of Walther W. and Sally F. Harmon of Christiansburg.
