ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Roanoke Valley home sales continued downward in October, off 14.4 percent from a year earlier. It was the third consecutive month to record a drop from 1993.

So far this year, 3,458 homes have been placed under contract, down 7.6 percent from 3,744 in the first 10 months of 1993. Tim Garrison, president of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, cited fluctuation in the economy and uncertainty about interest rates.
