NETWORKS PASS, SO BIG EAST TV GETS TECH-UVA

ABC and ESPN passed Monday on televising the Virginia-Virginia Tech game on Nov. 19, so the Big East Football Conference will air the sold-out game from Lane Stadium at noon.

WSLS (Channel 10) will show the game in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market, and the Big East will pay the ACC $50,000 for Virginia's appearance in the non-conference game. Tech received the same amount last season from the ACC when the state rivalry was televised from Scott Stadium.

The Big East decision to air UVa-Tech meant the Hokies' home date Saturday with Rutgers will not be televised. That game remains a 1 p.m. kickoff, as is the Maryland-Virginia game in Charlottesville. There is no telecast of that game.

The Big East telecast game Saturday at noon on WSLS is Syracuse-Boston College. The ACC network game is Duke-North Carolina State, at 3:30 p.m. on WSET (Channel 13), following ABC's national telecast of Notre Dame-Florida State from the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

ABC's only College Football Association selection for Nov. 19 is the Auburn-Alabama game, which will be aired regionally on WSET (Channel 13). ESPN's two CFA night games that date are Florida State-N.C. State at 7:30 and Brigham Young-Utah at 10:30.

The ACC noon telecast Nov. 19 is scheduled to be North Carolina-Duke, on WSET. WDBJ (Channel 7) will air ABC's national telecast of Michigan-Ohio State at noon.
