TENN. MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POT DISTRIBUTION

A Tennessee man who pleaded guilty in Pulaski County to distributing two pounds of marijuana has been sentenced to serve one year in prison.

James Wagner McDaniel, 40, pleaded guilty in July and was sentenced last week.

Commonwealth's Attorney Everett Shockley said McDaniel delivered the marijuana to the United Parcel Service Facility in Dublin in January with instructions that it be shipped to an address in Tennessee.

Shockley said McDaniel later changed his mind and directed UPS to return the package to him at a Wytheville hotel.

"In the meantime, law enforcement authorities in both states learned of the package's contents and McDaniel was arrested in Wytheville when he attempted to receive delivery of the package from a police officer posing as a UPS delivery man," Shockley said in a news release.

Circuit Judge Colin Gibb sentenced McDaniel to two years in prison but suspended one year. After his release, McDaniel will be placed on supervised probation for one year.
