Angie Rosenbaum scored five of her 11 points in the second quarter as the Indians outscored the Maroons 18-8 to break open a close game.
Beth Ketner added 11 points for Rural Retreat.
Piedmont District
Laurel Park 80, Dan River 49: At Martinsville, the Lancers used a fullcourt, man-to-man defense to force the Wildcats into numerous turnovers as Laurel Park rolled past Dan River in a first-round tournament game.
The Lancers (6-16) got a balanced scoring attack, led by Tonya Martin's 16 points. Toy Perkins added 15 points - 11 in the second half - and Isis Paddyfote chipped in 10.
Laurel Park also got 14 points from freshman Nekia Turner.
Dan River was led by LaShawn Hairston, who had 17 points, and Deauti Giggets added 14.
The Lancers play at Bassett in the next round Wednesday night.
Mountain Empire
Fort Chiswell 54, Bland 26: At Max Meadows, the Pioneers' guard combination of Amber Gunter and Kristen Harmon scored all of their points in the second half as Fort Chiswell survived a scare over an upstart Bland team in a first-round tournament game.
The Pioneers (8-13) were led by Trish Stuart, who scored 14 points. Gunter chipped in eight points in the second half and Harmon added seven to help the Fort Chiswell effort.
Bland (0-21), which led by two points at halftime, got 11 points from Amy Hanshew.
Fort Chiswell will face Narrows in the semifinals Thursday night at 8 p.m. in Galax
Rocky Gap 41, Grayson County 39: At Independence, the Eagles held off a late Blue Devil rally to earn a first-round tournament victory.
Rocky Gap (6-15), the tournament's fifth seed, took a 9-point lead in the fourth quarter. Fourth-seeded Grayson County (5-16) rallied behind Lindsay Carico's 10 fourth-quarter points to get within four, but the Eagles held on.
Nancy Tupper led Rocky Gap with 11 points. Carico had 12 for the Blue Devils.
Rocky Gap will face top-seeded Galax in the semifinals Thursday at Galax.
Galax 68, Narrows 47: At Max Meadows, Tammy Cox scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to help the Maroon Tide get off to a fast start and swarm past the Green Wave in a Mountain Empire District regular season playoff game at Fort Chiswell.
Galax and Narrows are co-champions of the district, but the Maroon Tide (16-5, 9-2) is the first seed in the district and the tournament. Galax will receive the automatic bid to the Region C tournament by virtue of its win.
The Maroon Tide led 32-19 at halftime and held a double-figure lead throughout the second half. Erin Kyle scored 10 of her 12 points in the third quarter. Jaclyn Dickens finished with 12 points.
Narrows (13-8, 8-3) was led by Suzanne Webb, who scored 12 points.
Galax will face Rocky Gap while Narrows will meet Fort Chiswell in the semifinals Thursday night at Galax.
