George W. Henderson III has been elected chief executive officer of Burlington Industries Inc., the Greensboro, N.C., textile company operating a carpet mill at Glasgow. The appointment is effective in January, upon the retirement of Frank S. Greenberg.
Henderson, 46, has been with Burlington since 1974 and has been president and chief operating officer since April 1993.
Greenberg, 65, will continue as chairman of the board of directors after retiring.
Henderson headed Burlington's sportswear operations in Europe from 1978 to 1982, when he was named president of Burlington Denim. He became a corporate group vice president in 1986.
In 1989 Henderson was made responsible for the company's Lees Carpets and Burlington House Area Rugs divisions in addition to the denim division. He was elected to the board of directors in 1990.
